Environmental Impact of Bottled Water

Most people don’t think their tap water is good enough, so they buy bottled water! The number of people buying water keeps increasing, in fact, over 10 BILLION gallons of water a year is sold in the United States alone.

It takes about 1.39 liters to make 1 liter of water and that doesn’t include the amount of water required to make the bottle itself; what a waste! The other issue is where does the bottle go when empty? Although a lot of people say they recycle, and some with good intentions, the fact is; about 80 % of bottles end up in a land fill and some are even floating around in the Pacific Ocean. (Read more about the Pacific Garbage Patch here.)

It takes about 450 years for a plastic bottle to biodegrade, that’s a long time, a lot of bottles, and the numbers keep increasing! Something has got to change!!!

The bottled water industry is not going to change any time soon, why would they? It is a BILLION dollar industry with more bottled water sold than milk or beer.

We as a species have to change as the plastic that has already been introduced into the environment and our food chain is here to stay, let’s stop and look at alternatives, that’s what we can do for you and your family.
