An ultrafiltration (UF) drinking water system is a cost-effective alternative to a RO system. It has the benefit of not requiring a storage tank, and not producing wastewater sent to drain. A UF system has a series of filters, beginning with a sediment filter between 5-30 microns in size to remove any larger contaminants before passing through the carbon filter. The carbon filter removes Chlorines and other Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC’s). Finally, the last filter in the series is the UF filter. The UF filter is approximately a 0.002 micron rating in size, small enough to remove contaminants such as Copper, Lead, Bacteria, Viruses, etc. but not small enough to remove dissolved solids and salts such as Calcium, Magnesium, etc.
